Post 1 by Mathieu Moyen

In my previous post I announced that this week the guest story about Bran-Jar starts on ReMINDblog. The first of nine post will be by Mathieu Moyen of 6-Commando, 6-Commando is a science fiction graphic novel about a nuclear war set in an alternative version of the 90’s. Mathieu has made this week besides above amazing page also an awesome page for 6-Commando, for the one or two people who are not yet familiar with 6-Commando you can read the story from the beginning here. Updates every Monday.

For those who don’t know yet, ReMIND is a graphic novel by Jason Brubaker about a cat who’s actually a super muscular lizard man. We follow the cat named Victuals on his quest to get his super muscular body back from the lizard king in a city deep, deep, deep below the surface of the water.

I must have caught your interest by now, so if you want to know how the story really goes you just click here.

The great story about Bran-Jar is written by Christopher Wrann of Aquarium Drinking. Aquarium Drinking is a graphic novel about five friends who are in there late twenties and start to question everything they have ever learned about life and love. I recommend everybody to follow these 5 friends  from this point in their search for the meaning of life. Updates every Wednesday.

Have fun!

Flits!

From my fellow comic maker Mathieu Moyen I got the (repeated) request to not use so many texts. According to him the illustrations alone are enough to tell the story with the exception of a single speech balloon here and there. It is difficult for me to change it since I envisioned this story with all this text in it. When Mathieu at page 21 told me again I had put in too much text all I could do was to tell him he was right. I think I just had to get comfortable with the idea that this story is getting better when it walks a slightly different path than the one I chose three years ago.

So! I not only not put in any text in this latest page, I also revised page 21 (against my own work ethics)!

I am now thinking about removing all the speech balloons on all the previous pages, make the conversation between Bear and Sem completely iconical (if that is a word) and maybe put in a voice-over here and there to explain something. I am very curious what you readers think of this, so if you have the time please leave a comment by clicking “comments” on the right side of this website.

And to conclude I like to thank Mathieu for his excellent advice, Thanks M!

About the story, this is one of the two scary pages in this story, I hope it is not too scary. It is still a children’s story after all.

Have fun with page 22 and a revised page 21!

End of chapter one

I like to take the time to promote a web comic made by fellow comic artist Mathieu Moyen. This week’s post on the 6-commando website is the final page for chapter one, I want to congratulate Mathieu with reaching this milestone. Because chapter one can now be read online in his entirety, this would be the best time to read the whole story from the beginning and get drawn into the conflict between the UNA (United Nations Alliance) and the FSR (Federative Socialist Republic).

For the few people who haven’t heard of 6-commando yet, here’s a little summary. The story takes place in 1997 in an alternate history, which has only seen one big world war and left the world with 3 major super powers, being UNA, FSR and a collaboration of the South American Coalition and the Arab League. In this setting we follow the lives of the people assigned to the 6-commando unit from UNA located in Kinshasa, Africa.

One of these people is actually a supersized robotic tank named Mike-1-Echo (see the picture on the right). When one of his colleagues, the lovely Major Sarah Bronniford is kidnapped by FSR soldiers, Mike goes in pursuit to rescue her, ignoring all other commands.

I have followed this story from the beginning and I loved it ever since. So I suggest you all go over to the website of 6-commando and be submerged in this thrilling war story with some of the most amazing art of this moment.

It will take a little time before the first pages of chapter two will be finished, but until then the artist has promised to post artwork on the regular schedule so don’t forget to return every Monday to read the latest installment.

Enjoy!

Joost.
